Ardbeg Heavy Vapours Committee Release is the Committee exclusive version of the 2023 Ardbeg Day release, a limited Islay single malt bottled at 50.2% ABV. It is non-chill-filtered and natural in colour.
For this edition the purifier was taken out of the still during distillation. Ardbeg normally uses it to return heavier vapours and balance the new make. Without it the spirit became heavier, darker and more forceful, with smoke, earth, tar and spice to the fore. The whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks.
The nose is earthy peat smoke, tar and creosote with dark chocolate and peppermint. The palate is bittersweet smoke, ash, coffee and menthol, and the finish is long and warming.
