Ardbeg Scorch Committee Release is a peated Islay single malt from the Ardbeg Distillery, bottled at 51.7% in a 70cl bottle. It was released for Ardbeg Day 2021 and is not chill filtered or artificially coloured.
The whisky is matured in the distillery’s most heavily charred ex-bourbon American oak casks, known as Alligator casks. The release draws on the tale of a dragon said to live beneath the distillery’s warehouse floors.
Charred oak and earthy peat smoke lead the nose. Black pepper, burnt wood and a dry, ashy texture mark the palate, and the long finish is smoky, with a touch of medicinal character.
