Ardbeg Traigh Bhan Batch 5 is a 19-year-old Islay single malt, bottled at 46.2% in a 70cl bottle. The name comes from the 'singing beach' on the south coast of Islay, where the sand seems to sing underfoot.
The whisky matured for at least 19 years in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Batches are allowed to differ slightly from one another.
The nose offers olive oil, tar, soot smoke, ginger chocolate and freshly cut grass. The palate is oily and minty-sweet, with toast, tar oil, smoked pineapple, dark chocolate and camphor. The finish is long and smoky, with sweet citrus, lingering pepper, coffee grounds and liquorice.
