Balvenie – 12 Year Old Double Wood

Balvenie 12 Year Old Double Wood is a Speyside single malt from the distillery William Grant built in Dufftown in 1892. Balvenie is one of the few Scotch distilleries with its own floor maltings. The whisky spends at least 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads, then moves to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a further nine months. It is then held in large oak tuns for three to four months so the casks can marry. The nose combines sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry with honey and vanilla. The palate is smooth and mellow, with nutty sweetness, cinnamon and a delicate layer of sherry. The finish is long and warming.
