Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt first created in 1993 by malt master David Stewart MBE. It is matured in two kinds of wood, a method now widely adopted.
The whisky spends twelve years in traditional American oak casks, then about nine months in Oloroso sherry casks of Spanish oak. Three to four months in large tuns follows, letting the whiskies marry.
The traditional casks soften the whisky, while the sherry wood adds depth and roundness. It comes in a 70cl bottle.
