Basil Hayden is a Kentucky straight bourbon from James B. Beam Distilling Co., in a 70cl bottle at 40%. It is natural in colour and chill-filtered.
A generous share of rye gives it a spicy side, while corn adds sweetness. Booker Noe created it in 1992 for the Small Batch Collection as a more approachable bourbon.
The nose brings charred oak, sweet vanilla and caramel, with a little dried fruit, spice, tea and a light mint note. On the palate charred oak meets brown sugar, honey and dried fruit, with black pepper adding spice. The body stays light and the bite is gentle. The finish is dry and clean, with charred oak and some dried fruit.
