Connemara Peated Single Malt (70cl, 40%)

Connemara Peated Single Malt is an Irish single malt from Cooley Distillery, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. The barley malt is dried over peat fires, a method that was already in use in the 18th century. The whiskey is distilled twice and matured in former bourbon casks of American oak. Its character joins smoky, vegetal peat with sweet malt, honey and light spice. The nose offers sweet barley and peat smoke, a hint of smoked herring and baked apple crumble. On the palate there is light honey sweetness and restrained, clean smoke rather than soot, with sweet barley water, oak and vanilla. The medium-length finish leaves vanilla and oak, with some peat smoke lingering.
