High Coast – Silent Mills 02 Sandö (50cl, 51%)

High Coast Silent Mills 02 Sandö is the second edition of the peated Silent Mills Collection from High Coast in Sweden, bottled in 2020 at 51% in a 50cl bottle. The edition runs to 10,318 bottles, without chill-filtering or added colour. About 20% of the whisky matured in 250-litre Oloroso sherry hogsheads and the rest in 200-litre first-fill bourbon casks. All of it is peated, at 44 to 45 ppm phenols, and the ages range from 6.01 to 7.69 years, averaging 7.35. The name recalls the Sandö sawmill on the Ångermanälven, built in 1857 and silent after its third fire in 1918. The nose combines peat smoke and vanilla with lemon peel, raisins and pineapple. The palate offers sweet peat, dried figs, milk chocolate and pickled pears. The finish is sweet and spicy.
