High West – Double Rye (70cl, 46%)

High West Double Rye is a straight rye whiskey from the High West distillery in Utah, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It combines two ryes: a two-year-old column still rye from MGP in Indiana, which makes up more than half of the blend, and High West's own pot-distilled rye, aged for up to seven years. The MGP whiskey has a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, while the High West rye is 80% rye and 20% malted rye. The blend was designed to be twice as spicy as a single rye. The nose offers mint, clove, cinnamon and liquorice root, with gin-like botanicals running through it. Rye spice leads the palate, followed by menthol, eucalyptus and wildflower honey. The finish is cinnamon and mint, sweetening gradually, with a hint of anise.
