High West Double Rye (175cl, 46%)

High West Double Rye is an American rye whiskey in a 1.75 litre bottle, bottled at 46% without chill filtration. It is a blend of two straight rye whiskeys made to different mashbills. The younger component, around two years old, comes from a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. The older component was distilled by High West from 80% rye and 20% malted rye. Together they pair a peppery edge with a rounder, maltier character. The nose brings cinnamon bark, clove, pine nuts and spearmint. On the palate, rye spice and fresh herbs give way to caramel, vanilla, pistachio and anise. The finish is long and warming, with black pepper, baking spices, leather and mint.
