Highland Park – 1990 Vintage Release (70cl)

This is a 1990 vintage single malt from Highland Park, made at the distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney. Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion tipped 34 ex-bourbon casks, laid down in 1990, into first-fill sherry-seasoned European and American oak hogsheads and refill hogsheads. After further maturation he chose five casks: three European oak hogsheads, one American oak hogshead and one refill hogshead. They were married in August 2023 and left to settle before bottling. The nose offers ripe orchard pears, grapefruit, geranium and sweet violet with delicate peat smoke. The palate adds pink grapefruit, mandarin, creamy vanilla, coconut and a hint of nutmeg. The finish is fruity, with fresh-cut wood and heathery peat smoke.
