Highland Park – 40 Year Old 2019 Release (70cl, 43.2%)

A 40 year old Highland Park single malt, the 2019 release, in a 70cl bottle at 43.2% ABV. It comes from just five refill casks that were laid down before 1979. In 2008 these were brought together and filled into first-fill sherry seasoned American oak casks, where the whisky spent a further 10 years maturing. The refill casks suited a long, slow maturation, while the sherry seasoned oak added depth and nutty, fruit-filled sherry character. It is described as rich and well balanced, deep and aromatic, with a delicate sweetness.
