This is the third release in Highland Park's Cask Strength series, bottled at 64.1% ABV. It was matured mainly in first-fill sherry casks of European and American oak, and a higher share of peated malt gives it a smoky character.
The release draws on the distillery's five pillars: aromatic peat, hand-malted barley, sherry oak casks, cool storage and cask harmonisation.
The nose is mostly toasted oak with smouldering peat, honey-glazed lemons and a subtle touch of aniseed. The palate offers ripe, fruity mango, heather honey, a hint of violets, vanilla, pink grapefruit and freshly baked sponge. The finish is long.
