Highland Park Viking Heart is a 15 year old single malt from Orkney, bottled at 44% in a 70cl ceramic decanter. Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion chose mainly sherry seasoned European oak casks for warm, spicy notes, and sherry seasoned American oak for sweet vanilla, with a few refill casks to soften the flavours. The strength was set to let the fruit and heathery peat smoke come through.
The porcelain decanter was made with Wade Ceramics of Stoke-on-Trent, founded in 1810. It is embossed with the lion and serpent design, and a heart motif on the back gives the whisky its name.
The nose shows crème brûlée, heather honey and cinnamon, then pineapple and lemon zest, with sponge cake and peat smoke.
