Journeyman Not A King Rye is an organic rye whiskey from Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks, Michigan, bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The mashbill is 60% organic rye, 35% organic corn and 5% organic barley, and the whiskey is distilled once. It is a limited annual release, made around Presidents Day.
The nose opens with keen rye spice, then warm seeded rye bread and new saddle leather, with honey and orange peel beneath. The palate is creamy and sweeter than the nose suggests, with maple-like caramel, honey, apricot and peppery warmth. The finish is long and oaky, with toasted grain and a little dried fruit.
