The first release in the Laphroaig Cask Strength Batches, a 10 year old Islay single malt bottled in 2009 in a 70cl bottle.
Laphroaig keeps its own floor maltings, which still supply 20% of its requirements, and relies mainly on ex-bourbon barrels for its sweet note.
The nose is fresh, with mild antiseptic and subtle peat smoke. The palate is complex, with smoked haddock, cut plug tobacco and burnt newspapers, although sweeter, buttery cooked fruit predominates. The finish is chewy toffee drying out to oak.
