Laphroaig – 1991 23 Year Old (52.6%)

A 1991 vintage Laphroaig from the distillery in the south of Islay, matured for 23 years in sherry casks. It is bottled at 52.6% ABV in an edition of 5000 bottles, each one numbered. The whisky sets Laphroaig's peat and smoke against sweet sherry, with salty Atlantic air running through it. The sweetness softens a powerful peaty character. The nose is smoky with sea air and sherry sweetness. The palate is big and peaty, tempered by the sherry, and the finish keeps that sweetness alongside spice from the cask wood.
