Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky (70cl)

Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky is made from malted barley distilled in Nikka's continuous Coffey still, a type of equipment more often used for grain whisky. It is matured in American oak barrels and comes in a 70cl bottle. Part of the spirit was distilled at Ben Nevis Distillery in Scotland, which Nikka owns, so it does not meet the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association criteria for the label Japanese whisky. The nose is sweet and toasty, with vanilla, grain, citrus zest and a hint of Williams pear. The palate shows clementine and orange, bitter chocolate, coffee and praline, with some banana and prune. The finish brings a whisper of liquorice, then lingering prune and mirabelle.
